CTU hosts NetMundial remote hub in Trinidad

Tuesday, April 22, 2014

Trinidad and Tobago citizens can take part in a global meeting on the future of Internet Governance being held in Brazil this week, without ever having to leave the country.

NetMundial, which takes place in Sao Paulo on April 23 and 24, is a forum that gathers international entities of the various stakeholders involved with Internet governance. The event has the goal of bringing together representatives of civil society, private sector, academia and technical community to establish strategic guidelines related to the use and development of the Internet in the world.

The global community of Internet users, including citizens of Caribbean countries, are invited to participate through the official remote participation web channels of the conference. The channels will broadcast the meeting live in English and allow users to make comments. There are also live translated options for six languages.

The remote hub in Trinidad and Tobago will be hosted by the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) Secretariat at their Port of Spain headquarters at 4 Mary Street, St Clair. Streaming will start at 8 am and is expected to run until at least 5 pm on both days.

The CTU is holding the event in partnership with the Trinidad and Tobago chapter of the Internet Society (ISOCTT) and the Trinidad and Tobago Network Information Centre (TTNIC).

Lunch and refreshments will be provided. The official event hashtag on Twitter is #netmundial2014.
