Fix healthcare, don’t give $$ to the ungrateful
After having chest pains, I visited the Casualty Department at the San Fernando hospital on May 23.
In all my life, I have never seen so many sick people seeking medical attention. Patients were all over the place packed like sardines in a tin. Yet the admitting doctors were able to divert and control every situation to bring about healing and relief to patients.
After spending 30 hours in Casualty, I was admitted to the Teaching Hospital where I received great medical attention from the cardiac doctors.
Miss Stacy from the wheelchair regulator was very good to me and my visiting niece and nephew. The hospital workers are wonderful, hard-working people.
But handwritten notes and communications must be replaced by computers.
Handwritten notes are not serving any good at the hospitals and clinics. Writing in block letters with simple headlines and much spacing can bring about temporary solutions.
Every time a patient has to speak to a new doctor or intern they have to go all over and repeat what was being dictated to the first enquiring doctor. A patient would get the impression that doctors and interns sometimes don’t understand their own handwritings.
Trinidad is a wonderful place and if given a chance, people from all over the world would come to live here.
I have seen people living comfortably only to leave Trinidad to secretly live in an Islamic country and some time after, they have to beg to come back.
Should we help those people with money when that same money can be spent in updating the computer systems for all of the hospitals in T&T?
The cardiac doctors are wonderfully qualified people, but they don’t have the facilities to perform an angiogram for suffering heart patients.
Roofs at the hospitals have been falling down. Should we not spend the money on updating every aspect of health care at the hospitals so that we can say that we have the best health care in the world? Why give money and attention to ungrateful people who do not like to live in T&T?
