Duke catches a walk in the park

Number one seed Akiel Duke yesterday had a walk in park victory when he defeated Che Sanchez 6-1 6-0 in the Under-18 quarterfinal of the Catch National Tennis Championship, at the Eddie Taylor Public Courts, St Clair. The 18-year-old Signal Hill student described his performance as a match of good serves and volleys. “In the first set it was all about good serves and good volleys and in the second, my confidence went up.”


Duke will face fellow Tobagonian Ty Abraham today in the semifinal. Abraham had a thrilling win over Ethan Ammon 7-5, 6-4. Amond described the match as challenging who attends Bishops High said it was a challenging match. “The first set was relaxed but the second was more about rallies and I was able to defeat him.” Elan Mendes defeated Scott Lancer 0-4, 4-2, 4-2 for the second time of the tournament. Mendes defeated Lanser in the Under-18 prelims on Tuesday and again beat him in the Under-16 quarterfinal yesterday 0-4, 4-2, 4-2.
