Boxer Floyd Trumpet, left, Joanne Balgobin of Floyd Trumpet Promotions and boxer Kevin Placide. The duo will battle for the WBA Fedecaribe Super Welterweight title at the Jerry Junction Sports Bar, Waterloo, Carapichaima tomorrow.

Boxing champ Floyd Trumpet will be in action July 28 against Kevin Placide where the duo will battle for the Fedecaribe Super Welterweight Title at the Jerry Junction Sports Bar, Waterloo, Carapichaima. Trumpet who was set to make a return to the ring with a six-round non-title fight against Ian Blue after a three-year absence on May 5 hit a snag when he was informed that the fight could not take place because it was not sanctioned by the T&T Boxing Board of Control (T&TBBC). Speaking at a press conference on Thursday at Mangoes Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge Port-of-Spain, Trumpet commended his opponent for accepting the challenge. He said: “Floyd Trumpet Fight Productions (FTFP) is a company based on promoting fights. This fight between myself and Placide is a re-match from in the past as we fought for the national titles way back in 1990 but the fight resulted in a draw. Initially he was not my first opponent  but I would like to thank Placide.”
He continued, “Way back in amateur days Placide and I were always warriors. Back in the 1990’s, the fight alone wasn’t always the sweetness. It was action before the fight with bantering all in the oval and that’s what I like about Mr Placide he knows how to sell a fight and he can also fight so I would like to thank him for giving us a good fight and giving the people of central a good fight.” Placide in his address added a bit of humour by imitating movie character Rocky Balboa and urged his fans to come out and support the old rocky. The bout, which is themed Ultimate Fight 1, will also feature five amateur fights with debutants Kyle Ragoonath, Jermeile Guverra, Adrian Cooper and Shaquille Matauer. In the open division brothers Aron and Gideon Prince are also said to be in battle.
